Apptastic: Apps worth downloading

I love technology.  I have an iPhone and iPad and believe me, I use them to their full potential.  As a fan of Apps that help me grow in my faith, I decided to have a page dedicated for that purpose.  I’ll add any I find for the Android and Blackberry, but honestly, most of these will be for the iPhone because, let’s face it, the iPhone rocks.

These are all FREE unless otherwise marked…

iPhone/iPad

  • Bible: LOTS of versions AND an option for audio as well…nice for all those fun Old Testament names most of us can’t pronounce. They also have a wonderful variety of reading plans to help  you get to know the Bible better and draw closer to God.
  • Bible for KIDs: Help your kids fall in love with God’s Word. This App is WONDERFUL!! Love the animation and fun extras.
  • Bible Memory Verses: This helps you memorize verses.  You can choose from there list or add your own.
  • Prayer Wall: An opportunity to post your request online for the whole community to pray over, you can then chose from the posted requests and pray for them too!
  • Truth or Trash: So can you tell what is Truth and what’s trash? Each answer is backed up with scripture, a fun little game, how many in a row can you get correct?
  • Jesus Calling: There’s a Lite version that is free, but this one costs $9.99
  • Our Daily Bread: Another daily devotional that you can access right from your phone; $.99
  • Focus on the Family: What is there NOT to love about this App??  It has conversation starters, tips, and creative ideas for families and couples.  {coming soon for the Android too}

Bible Trivia/Games (as you can see, the titles are sooooo original, LOL)

  • Children’s Bible Games & Activities: Ok, this one seems to be the cream of the crop here. It comes with a few free portions, then you have to buy the other ones. From what I’ve seen so far, it’ll be worth every penny!
  • Bible Quiz 3D: This one is my fave so far! Looks great and the game play is fun! You race around the world answering questions as you witness your faith to the community.
  • Bible Trivia: I really like this one too! Test your Bible knowledge by guessing the word… with all clues created from Bible verses!
  • The Bible Quiz: You can challenge your friends here!! Anyone wanna play???
  • Bible Quiz for Kids: Learn more than you ever imagined in this in-depth app for Bible memorization. Kids Bible Quiz is a 20-lesson educational tool to help you learn more about the world’s most important book. Each lesson contains a memory verse, scripture selections, Bible timeline, content discussing the context of each scripture portion, an interactive activity, two Bible quizzes (multiple choice and fill in the blank), and red and blue level competition modes. At the end of each quiz users have a chance to review the questions they missed to increase memorization. Each quiz year focuses on a single book of the Bible; the current year’s study is the book of Acts.
  • Bible Quiz Game: See how well you know the facts from the Old and New Testament, facts about Moses, Jesus and his apostles, and other characters of the Bible! You can challenge people too!
  • Bible Quiz: Have you read the Bible? Then join Bible Quiz and remember all the important teachings one can find in the Holy Book! This quiz comprehends the Pentateuch, Psalms and Proverbs, the Apocalypse and a whole lot more. Play, learn and thrive!
  • Devo Bible Quiz: Play the Devo Bible Quiz & Trivia game and test your Bible knowledge. It’s a challenging and educational way of finding out how well you know the Bible.

Getting Organized:

  • Evernote: A free desktop App where I can make notes, tag them, keep them organized and access from pretty much anywhere I want.  I put in Bible verses and give them tags so I can find the right one, right when I need it most!  App is available for pretty much every kind of mobile device, including tablets.
  • Dropbox: I have a computer at home and work. There are files I need on both, but I have a nasty habit of misplacing my thumb drives. I can instal Dropbox on both computers and whatever files I put in it will show up on both. I LOVE this App and it has make my life soooo much simpler! When I save a file on my work computer, I can pick up where I left off when I get home and visa versa! You start out with 2G for free, but if you sign up through the link above you’ll get an extra 500MB for free automatically! There is an App you can download for your phone so you can view and share your files anywhere.
  • Shopping List Free: This handy App for the iPhone helps you organize your shopping list. You can categorize items making trips to the grocery store so much easier! I upgraded to the Pro version {$2.99} so that I could create my own categories and lists for more than one store. This has become my new best friend! It also remembers items you have entered so the then time you put it on your list everything is filled in automatically!
  • Any.DO: I love this free App and it’s available for almost any phone. You can not only make a to-do list, but separate it into Personal, Work, or custom folders. If needed, you can set a date for that task to be done and change the color to red to show which ones are priority. One feature I haven’t used yet is “sharing.” You can share this list with anyone on your list, like your kids, spouse, or co-workers. The screen icon has a little number showing you how many tasks are on your list.
  • Allrecipes Dinner Spinner: Ok, I have found some of my favorite recipes from this little free App; which is available for most phones. I simply choose my main ingredient, how much time I have, the kind of meal I want, and presto! I get a list of possibilities! When I’m making my meal plan for the week I pull this out and see what new recipe we want to try.
  • Cozi Calendar: This handy App has been a family life saver. I run our youth group and my husband has his own business, so our schedules get filled quickly. The Cozi App syncs on all our devices and I can access everything online, this means we have almost eliminated double booking ourselves.

If you have any cool Apps to share, either for fun or faith, leave a comment, I’ll check it out and see about adding it to the list.

  3. There is an app for iPhone, called flashlight by iHandy. It uses the flash on the camera as a flashlight and can be used as a strobe as well. It has come in handy when the power was out and when we stopped at a gas station on a road trip, the restroom light was very dim, luckily I had just installed my flashlight app and voila! I could see! lol
