Hope Prevails #BookReview and #Giveaway

hope previals quoteAs a board-certified neuropsychologist, Dr. Michelle Bengtson believed she was prescribing the most effective treatments for her clients who struggled with depression. But when she experienced debilitating depression herself, she found that the treatments she had recommended weren’t helping her the way she expected. She was determined to find out what was missing.

With the deep compassion of someone who has been there, Dr. Bengtson blends her training and that vital missing piece she discovered to offer you a hope grounded in God’s love and grace. She helps you understand what depression is, how it affects you spiritually, and what, by God’s grace, depression cannot do. The result is an approach that offers not just the management of symptoms but the hope of true release.

As I read through Dr. Bengtson’s book Hope Prevails a passage from Luke came to my heart about a man who was demon possessed. After Christ healed him, the man begged Jesus to let him follow him. Christ had a better plan for this man’s life:

Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you. And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. – Luke 8:39

Michelle has done just as Christ has urged. She has been healed and is compelled to proclaim all Christ has done in and through her! Why should you pick up Hope Prevails?

If you have ever or are currently battling with depression or anxiety, Michelle offers hope and healing through the One who has the power to heal completely. She has not only “been there, done that,” but is uniquely gifted by God to offer practical and spiritual aid.

The end of each straightforward and Scripture-saturated chapter, Michelle provides practical steps to bring healing, Scripture to commit to memory, and music to soothe your heart.

If you have never experienced the darkness of depression, I would still recommend you pick up this book. “In any given year, approximately 18.8 million American adults suffer from a depressive disorder. At some point, about one in four Americans will experience depression. If you have not suffered from depression, you know someone who has or does!” Hope Prevails provides you with a powerful tool to help yourself or someone you love who is hurting.

Do you know someone who’s heart and life would benefit from having a copy of Hope Prevails? If so, leave a comment below. For every ten comments, I will give away one copy of Hope Prevails. (one comment per person will be counted) Entries must be in by Sunday at midnight.

  1. My friend Karla’s husband has been diagnosed with a very aggressive brain tumor. I know of two other friends who had the same diagnosis. Each passed to glory 18 months later. This is a difficult time for her and their girls 7th grade to 23. Many of the books you have reviewed I have purchased and this one seems to be something that can remind Karla that God’s promises never fail. Even when our earthly lives encounter trials.

  2. I’ve had depression for several years. It took me to the depths of a pit as mentioned in the psalms. It’s manageable now but I’ve learned to “pay attention” to my thoughts, actions and beliefs. If I feel myself isolating more and more I’m in trouble. I don’t allow it to keep me a prisoner but I also don’t take it for granted that I feel goid on a daily basis. God knows what we’re going thru and knowing and believing He’s with me always gives me comfort and hope to stay out of that pit!

  4. I would like to read this book. I have a loved one who suffers from depression and would love to read a biblical perspective about this disease. It would be nice to receive a free copy, but either way, I will get a copy for my library. I know this was a God moment, because I do not normally see your posts. Thank you for sharing this and following God’s leading.
