A goal without a plan is just a wish. –Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I don’t think I’m about to share something you haven’t heard before, but maybe the way I share it will give you a different perspective and it will motivate you to give it a try…..PLAN!!! If we will prepare and plan for the known, the unknowns won’t be so hard to handle. Most importantly it will help keep us healthy – spiritually, mentally and physically. I have expounded upon six areas in life for which a “plan” can be liberating.
*Plan your prayer & quiet time. I have a space at home that is prepared for me to have my time with Jesus. My Bible, journal, and computer are ready to go when I’m ready to go. Most of my Bible studies are online due to the convenience of doing them on my schedule. I also have a Bible, a journal, and my computer at work for the times I have to use my lunch hour because my morning was too chaotic.
*Plan your meals. Start with a shopping list. This will save you time and money when you go shopping. If it’s not on your list, consider not buying it. After your shopping is complete, go home and prepare your meals. Package everything so it is ready to go when you need it. Here are a few things I do…put fruit and veggies in individual baggies, cut up veggies for meals I will be cooking for supper, boil eggs, make a batch of quinoa, and make my protein pancakes.
*Plan what you are going to wear. Every night I plan what I will wear to work the next day. I iron if necessary and collect all accessories so I know if my alarm doesn’t get me out of bed on time I can still make it to work on time. I may have to put my makeup on at the red lights and my hair may be in a messy bun but I will be on time.
Secondly, prepare your workout clothes. On the days that I workout in the morning, my workout clothes and shoes are set out in the bathroom by my toothbrush. All I have to do is brush my teeth, put on my contacts and get dressed. If you go to a gym, then prepare your gym bag every night so you don’t have to go home before going to the gym. If you make it home, you may come up with 101 excuses why you should just stay home instead of going to the gym.
*Plan your workouts. Know when you are going to workout, where you are going to workout and what workout you will be doing. I know Monday, Wednesday & Friday I workout after work, at home doing the next video on my 21 Day Fix DVD. Tuesday & Thursday I workout before work, at home and again with my DVD. If you go to the gym know when you are going morning or evening, taking a class or lifting weights and make sure you have your headphones.
*Plan your chores/housekeeping. I know this may sound silly but it works and you don’t have to spend your entire weekend cleaning house and doing laundry. Monday night mop floors, Tuesday vacuum, Wednesday clean your bathroom, etc. A little something each day makes a big difference at the end of the week when you are ready to relax.
*Plan your extracurricular activities. I don’t have children that need to be picked up from school, dropped off at dance, taken to the doctor, etc. If you’re married divide and conquer. If you’re single then planning is a MUST so you don’t lose a child or forget an important appointment. My husband and I know when we will each be home to make sure the dogs are fed on time and supper is ready before 8pm.
I know that I have shared a lot of what I do, but I offered them only as examples. Make this list of planning yours. Make it fit your needs and your family’s needs. The bottom line is to plan. If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail.
If you have questions or need more planning ideas leave a comment below. I can also add you to a private Facebook page I have that I’m constantly giving encouragement, accountability, recipes, and anything else my group requests. I also share more of what works for me and I would be glad to help you reach your health goals.
