187 Million Words #TechTuesday

187 million words #TechTuesday #TransformedIf a picture is worth a thousand words, then logic would have it that 187,000 pictures would be worth 187 million words (yay math!).  That’s a bunch of words, but most of all that’s a whole lot of free downloads and creating.

On January 6th The New York Public Library released 187,000 images from various collections to the public domain.  All of these images are free to download and use, for whatever purpose, free of restriction from copyright.  What this means is that if you are looking for a unique image for a presentation or website, ad campaign or flyers, add a Scripture overlay, use as a visual for your message, or you just want something cool to hang in your living room or office you have a free and easy repository of images to choose from.

Clicking randomly through the database is quite fun.  You get everything from wildlife sketches to menu covers and old photos and check receipts from military generals. Now, if you use this tool along with another image creation or editing tool like Canva, which Heather featured a while back, you now have a powerful combination of resources that’ll help you create unique quality images for whatever your purpose.

Once again these are FREE to use images.  One of the biggest determining factors when publishing to outreaching media is the quality of your content.  Poor quality content will leave your visitors looking for another site.  This content can be anything, but special emphasis can be placed on any visual content like pictures and video.  One of the best ways to ensure you have quality images is to start off with quality stock photos or quality raw footage and this site as well as Canva are great ways to start your search for good quality visual content.

  1. This is amazing, Heather! From what you’re saying, it sounds Iike these can be altered and/or posted without reference? Can’t wait to look through the database. Thank you!!! And many thanks to the New York Public Library too!
