Raise your hand if no matter what you do…you feel drained.
Have you gotten enough sleep?
I bet you’ve eaten plenty of food to keep you fueled too.
Relaxing with the family or with friends is nice, but not enough.
Finally crossed everything off your endless to-do list and still feel lacking?
We all have hobbies too. Things we enjoy doing to unwind…but still not enough.
Nothing we do seems to satisfy….nothing we do seems to be enough.
So what is? What can we do that is enough to wash away this nagging, unrelenting feeling of exhaustion?
Believe me, I’ve tried everything, even loads of delicious coffee or chocolate isn’t enough. At the end of the day I still feel worn, exhausted, unsatisfied, dreading another day with nothing but a mountain of things to do, not enough time to get it all done, and feeling like I’m working with an energy deficit.
But there is hope. There is a promise. A promise from One who never fails. Who is always enough and who provides more than we need. Rest for the part of us nothing else in this world can satisfy…our spirit.
Stop what you’re doing.
Get away; go in the bathroom, sit in your car, close the door to your office.
Close your eyes.
Rest in Him.
A moment is all you need.
Say a simple prayer.
Read a simple verse.
Rest in a simple devotion.
Listen to a song of praise.
He is found everywhere and is never too busy for you.
And He is more than enough…
Father, I need You. I need the peace only You can provide. The strength I do not have is in You. I am not enough, but You are. You are more than enough. Let me rest in You, if even for a moment. My soul thirsts for You and only You can satisfy. Only You can renew me, renew and refresh this spirit. Come to me before I waste away, revive these dry bones. Thank You for always being here. Thank You for the outpouring of Your Spirit into mine. Amen.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. ~Matthew 11:28
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:6-7
Now that you have taken a moment to rest in Him…do the next thing.
How do you spend quiet moments with God?
