Baby on Board

I won’t lie to you, May 2011 hurt. Within one week I lost my first child to miscarriage and my step-mother to suicide. I dug into God’s Word, clinging to His promise to never leave me nor forsake me. This past month I haven’t been around much but not because of sadness resurfacing…because I needed to step back from everything. Since I am a stubborn woman, God made me step back using two little pink lines.

I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him. I Samuel 1:27

The past 9 weeks have been a bit of a roller coaster. In those first three or four, every little shift in my body made my angst skyrocket, fearing a repeat of last year.  My husband and I decided to hold off until we cleared the first trimester before telling anyone. The only exception was my prayer group and one other person {waving}. I knew I would need that group for support and encouragement and I don’t think they will ever fully realize just how much they helped me these past few weeks, just knowing they were standing in prayer for BB, my husband, and I. As you can see…we didn’t make it to waiting twelve weeks! Slowly but surely people have been told or they frankly figured it out! {Who knew that gradually gaining five pounds, drinking water like crazy, and the zillion trips to the bathroom would be such a give away…or was it the silly grin plastered to my face?}

Today was our first appointment and I just have to say my doctor is the BEST! She has a heart for what she does and an even bigger heart for Christ. I wouldn’t have been able to get into see the ultra/sonogram tech today, so she graciously did it herself. She knew that after last year and already waiting 9 weeks Daniel and I were chomping at the bit to know that our little one was growing on schedule.

We were not disappointed. The instant BB {Baby Bleier} popped up on the screen the tears started to fill our eyes. Whether our little one was moving around on their own or tossed around because of my inability to stop laughing, what a beautiful sight! Then my doctor clicked on BB’s little heart and we heard the lub-dub we had been longing to hear for almost two years. God has been gracious, more than that, He has been in there with BB. He has been hard at work knitting BB together, spending these quiet weeks forming BB’s tiny body, which is now only an inch or so. Oh, but how my husband and I already adore this little grape growing in the comfort this womb.

Our lives will never be the same. We are already taking steps to get our home ready for BB. I am working hard to give BB everything they need; food, water, and LOTS of rest {not that I have a choice on the rest part, some days I just can’t make it without a good two hour nap!}. Getting up in the morning to write hasn’t exactly been a high priority for me; though believe me, I miss writing and keeping up with the blogs I enjoy.  So I will write when I can, but in the mean time…BB either needs me to nap or eat and what can I say? This little grape will be the one in charge for the next 7 months!

Got any advice? I’d love to hear from you :)!

  1. Not only will the little grape be the one in charge for the next 7 months…but for the next, uh, 18 years???? So excited for you! Lord, be with Heather as this precious child of Yours grows inside of her. Help her to feel Your presence, know Your heart, and receive Your love as she goes throughout her days. Amen.

    1. Thank you for the prayer Kelli :)! Yeah, I’m thinking the next 18+ years are going to be crazy fun for my hubby and I…not to mention LONGER if and {hopefully} when we have more children. I already know it’s going to fly by so fast!

    1. I’m doing my best to listen…it’s OBEYING that I have to work on! LOL, I’m so used to just going, going, going that I have to work hard to force myself to STOP. Luckily, having a precious child depending on me completely is a powerful motive to do what is needed to everything I can to take care of BB.

  3. Such great news, Heather! Our daughter Bethany also just announced she is expecting #2 baby around Christmas. When is your due date? Treasure each moment…you’ll notice an unusual sensitivity to God’s voice while expecting. Not sure why, but it was that way with all three of mine. Enjoy!

    1. Congrats to Bethany!! We’re due right before Christmas too, the 16th-19th at the moment. Oh I am treasuring every headache, run to the little girl’s room, bout with nausea, and desire to sleep at the drop of a hat! It’ll be worth every moment! Though I admit, I prefer days like this where I get to see and hear BB :).

I would imagine it’s because we get a double dose of Him dwelling within. Between having His Spirit taking up residence in our hearts and all that work He is doing in our womb, it’s no wonder we get that “glow”!!

      1. That’s an intriguing response. Never quite thought of it like that! I’ll pass your congrats and also your wisdom about the “double dose” along to Bethany. She’ll love it. Blessings, friend.

  6. I remember how amazing it felt to be pregnant with Alex almost 2 years after our painful miscarriage. When I heard that little heartbeat and heard the tech say that everything looked perfectly healthy, it was all I could do not to start crying right there in the room. Congratulations to you both. God has definitely blessed you! I can’t wait to see you as a Mommy. I know you’re going to be a wonderful one. YAY!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you 🙂

    1. Yeah, going through that miscarriage wasn’t easy for either of us, but we still trust in God’s timing and His will. Seeing BB today was indescribable. Top that off with being able to hear that little heart beat and finally share our good news with everyone has just made this my fave day ever! {right up there with my wedding day}.

  10. Oh, I’m jealous. Not that your pregnant of course, I’m super excited for that and am glad I can talk about it now. I was holding my tongue on some of your posts knowing it was due to BB. I’m jealous because you got to take video. Our technician wouldn’t let us take video due to legality issues. So happy you have this though and praying for a safe and healthy pregnacy. And keep me in mind if you’ve got questions. I know I asked my recently pregnant friends all sorts of questions! excited to go through this with you, just 1o weeks apart! Love you honey!

    1. Yeah…10 weeks and a whopping 5,000+ miles apart! Why did God have to make Alaska and Florida so far apart? I got really luck that my doctor allowed us to take the video. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to that beautiful sound! I miss you sister and I pray that we will still get to see each other in SA next year for NYG????? I love you!!

  16. Congrats Heather! I’m so happy for you and will pray for a continued healthy pregnancy. My advice for first trimester: Always have a snack and water next to you. Granola bars are healthy and easy! Try to limit the traveling, if you can, because you usually don’t have enough control over the eating situation when you travel. Not fun. If you ever have any questions or need any advice or support or anything, feel free to call, text, or FB me.

    1. Thanks Kathy! BB and I are doing well, keeping food and water nearby certainly makes a HUGE difference when it comes to keeping nausea at bay. I already went to and from VA with my students on a class trip and in July I’ll be flying out to NC. I’ll make sure I pack lots of snacks to keep me going. How are you and your little one doing??

  18. Heather. I am so blessed to hear you are having a baby and that this pregnancy is going well. I am sad to hear about your MIL because I know what suicide can do to a family since our family has had 4 of them in 6 years as well as murder of my grandmother. It is a tough journey and nothing I would wish on my worst enemy but through it all God has been faithful. Please let me know if I can help in anyway. Praying for a healthy baby.

  19. So happy for you, Heather 🙂 Have you read Heaven Is For Real or I’ll Hold You in Heaven? Both books give great hope to moms about previous miscarriages. You have one child already in heaven and another one God is giving you here. He is faithful, faithful, faithful. Here’s my advice: sleep when the baby sleeps. God is giving you that rest time because you need it. Keep your relationship with your husband bigger than your relationship with your child. Keep that relationship a priority so that your child grows up feeling secure. If people tell you bizarre advice, just smile and say thank you (but don’t do what seems weird to you). And find Scriptures as you read that are promises you can claim for your child. Put a little stick figure child by those verses so you can find them again easily. Hugs and congratulations again!
