Proverbs: Chapter Eight

Wisdom’s Call, Verses 1-36

Unlike the call of the adulteress who brings destruction, wisdom’s call brings prosperity. Wisdom stands at the gate, in the middle of crossroads, in the light of day calling out to people passing, and beckoning them to listen to what she has to say. As we have read before, she tells us that her wisdom is more precious than anything in the world, more than silver, gold, or rubies. What she speaks is true with no hint of evil intent.

She goes on to say that because of her kings are able to make just laws, men and women are able to prosper. In verse 17, we are reminded that when we seek out wisdom, we will find it, she will not hide from us. This immediately makes me think of Jeremiah 29:13 where God tells us that when we seek Him we will find Him, when we seek Him with all our hearts. I just love the fact that if we want to do what is right in God’s eyes, if we call out to Him seeking the right path, He will be faithful to show us the way. God will not make it difficult for us to do what is right. If you are ever unsure of the path you should take or have a “WWJD?” type situation, then pray, dive into the Scripture, and seek godly counsel, God will reveal to you the answer you seek; just remember, His answer may not be the one you were looking for. The next section starts out with how God created wisdom before anything else, that it was in-fact His first creation. Wisdom continues on describing the work of creation, like we would a find memory. We close this chapter with the reminder that those who possess wisdom are blessed.

Father, thank You for not hiding Your wisdom from us, for giving us what we need in order to follow Your will and Your ways. Thank You for always giving us the answers…even if that answer isn’t what we wanted or expected. Give us obedient hearts for Your instruction. In Your Son’s Name we pray, Amen.

I know this entry was pretty short, but nothing really jumped out at me. How about for you? Was there something in this chapter that struck a cord with your heart? I would love to hear your thoughts below.
