I’ve Got Mail

Do you have one of those friends that all you have to do is see their face and your whole day is instantly better?  The sound of their voice brings you joy, filling you from the tips of your toes to the top of your head?  Even just seeing their name pop up on your email, Twitter, Facebook, or phone makes you eager to find out news they are sharing with you?  Just getting a letter from them is enough to make your heart burst into song?

Well, I have 12 beautiful friends who do just that…and I’ve only met 2 of them in person!!

On March 1st, something beautiful happened that has changed my life in ways I didn’t even know was possible.  My friend and I started an online prayer group through Google.  We started with one desire; go deeper in our prayer life together, to lift one another up in prayer when each one of us had need.  Did I mention that she lives in the Netherlands while I live here in South Florida?  When we started, I don’t think either of us was prepared for what God would do in and through this group!

Our number quickly went from 2 to 11 as a few online friends joined us from Wendy Blight’s blog, where we met through one of her amazing online Bible studies {Yes Wendy, they are amazing!}.  In May and June our final number came to 13.  Thirteen incredible women from all over the world; Italy, the Netherlands, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina, Georgia, and other states in the US.  Since we began in March, we have sent over 3,000 emails to one another.  This doesn’t include personal emails, Tweets, Facebook posts, phone calls, texts, and even snail mail!  In our busiest month we topped over 500 emails sent to one another.  On any given day, there could be anywhere from 0 emails, to over 40 popping up in our inbox.  It all depends on what needs we each have at that moment.

So what on earth do we email back and forth?  Well, I’m certainly not going to give you specifics, because each of us honors the confidentiality of each of our sisters, no matter how “small” their request may appear.  What I can tell you is this.  If any one of us has a need, another will respond quickly with a prayer that will just blow you away, scripture that pours God’s Truth into your desperate heart, words of encouragement and wisdom passed on from the heart of God, and love that has no limits and no strings attached.  Sometimes, all you will get from someone is a simple, “I have no words to offer, but I’m praying for you, I love you.”  Believe me, those may seem like simple words, but they have more profound meaning for me coming from one of my sisters than they can by anyone else I know…because I KNOW they are lifting me up, wherever I may be.

Not one of us is obligated to respond to every email, but we are each called to lift up our sisters in whatever way the Spirit moves us to and we don’t do Bible studies together, though we absolutely could.  But…

Each beautiful heart has helped me draw closer to God in my walk with Him.

Each one has lifted me up when I didn’t think I could keep going.

Each one has blessed my life beyond measure.

And my heart leaps every time I’ve got mail.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ~Philippians 4:6

To each of my Philippians 4:6 sisters, I love each of you more than you may realize.  I pray fervently that I have been able and will continue to be able to do for you what you have done for me…praying without ceasing.

  2. Heather, this group is such a testimony to Ephesians 3:20. Who would have ever known that God would have taken a simple on-line Bible study and used it to create a fellowship of prayer joining women from around the world.

We must never forget when we do anything for the Lord and cover it in prayer, He promises and will be faithful to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we could ever ask or imagine!!!

I love each and every one of the twelve women in this group and thank you for the many prayers you have prayed and will pray!!! God has done a mighty work in and through our hearts.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

  3. Heather, THANK YOU for putting God’s perfect intimacy in writing… We are so blessed by His truest miracles… Through this group, God has answered my prayers I’ve ceased praying years ago… for amazing Godly girlfriends. He not only answered those prayers, but He put a HUGE exclamation mark on it… This group is so far beyond anything I could have dreamed up myself. THANK YOU Father… and THANK YOU to each of you girls. You have brought my life to a whole new level! I love you all beyond measure!
