In the Beginning…

It thought it might be fitting to start off with the greatest story ever told (the short version)…
In the Beginning…
These three simple words launched the greatest story ever written in the history of all humanity.  It is by no means a short story, spanning before time began and covering thousands of years.  Our infinite God reaching down, creating finite man, giving him everything he could possibly need or want in life. He gave us security, companionship, a direct relationship with our Creator, and free will.  (Genesis 1-2)
Free will…
Two little Words that changed the original plot line forever.  We weren’t created to love God blindly.  Instead, God gave humanity a simple choice; follow Him or follow our own desires.  He knew what we would choose.  We wanted to be like Daddy, but instead we brought into the world sin, destruction, pain, death, and eternal separation from our Father.  There was nothing we could do to take it back, no amount of good could make us right with God, but God is LOVE. (Genesis 3)
God is LOVE…
A simple, power fact that many cannot seem to comprehend.  We are wrapped up in our pain and circumstance, but the fact remains unchanged…God is LOVE.  He saw what His children had done and He knew what it would take to make it right again.  God in His infinite knowledge waited until the perfect moment in time and then He called His Son, Jesus Christ. (1 John 4)
Jesus Christ…
Name above all names, Son of God, Son of Man, King of kings, and Lord of lords.  Our Savior and Brother gave up His throne in heaven to become a human, born in a stable to a carpenter, no palace for our King, not even a safe beginning, already men made plots to take His life.  We know very little about His early years, but we see His love for God’s people as He begins to teach and heal.  He came for one purpose and one purpose alone…to die so that we may live. (Matthew 1-2, 3-25)
We may live…
Our sin, yours and mine nailed our God to a cross, beaten, bleeding, and naked.  We betrayed Him in the night, handing Him over to be judged for crimes He did not commit.  We have denied Him, ignoring the ‘least of these’ favoring our security and comfort over stepping out in faith for our Savior.   As He hung struggling for each breath, He asked His Father to forgive…and with one breath, He called out “It is FINISHED.” (Matthew 26-27)
It is FINISHED…
As Christ was taken down from the cross, He left behind our every sin, brokenness, and hurt.  It is dead, decaying on a wooden cross that no longer exists…but Jesus isn’t…
Jesus Isn’t…
Christ is Risen!  He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!!  We get to shout these words whenever we want.  No one speaks of Christ in the past tense, because He is alive, actively working in our lives to bring us closer to the Father.  His blood washed us clean, He was naked because He clothed us in His own righteousness, and He died so that we may live eternally with our Father in heaven.  We are FREE! (Matthew 28)
We are FREE…to serve, to praise, to love, to forgive…
